Entry Unit

We were excited and relieved to see this entry unit, because it was the source of a lot of back and forth just before it was ordered. The wrong thing had been specified, we caught it at the last minute... It's perfect! (The issue was about how the transom lines up with the side lites below.)

Tonight, we met with the architect and the contractor at the house to talk about the Wrong Window and other issues. Everything was resolved to our satisfaction. We didn't get the window we wanted (and had originally specified), but we were satisfied nonetheless

Replacing the window would have been a big delay (bad for us) and would have cost a lot of money (bad for our contractor, who was willing to pay), and in the end he offered to pay for some additional work we needed to replace the laundry door jamb, if we would accept the window that was in place. It was a successful negotiation. We felt the satisfaction of being reasonable, he admitted their mistake, we realized how important it was to not delay the project, he paid for something we needed, we knew we could live with the window as it is.

Also, they said they would center the doorway into the family room (which was more important than the laundry room window). And they sent back the wrong door and ordered the right one (which will let more light into the laundry room).

And the house is looking great! And so far it seems like there almost exactly on schedule, despite added work! And it looks like we will be able to move into an apartment after all! Though I'm not holding my breath on that one...

And Barack Obama is going to be our president!
